Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Equine Management

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Equine Management is designed to provide students with skills and a vocational qualification so they can work within the equine industry. A Level 2 Technical Certificate in Horse Care is needed to apply for this course.

Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Equine Management (540) (1st year)

  • For those age 16+
  • Programme runs from September to July
  • Full time, minimum 17 ½ hours per week
  • Riding and non riding option

Year 1 Mandatory Units

  • Principles of health and safety
  • Undertake and review work-related experience in the land-based industries
  • Undertake stable yard operations
  • Equine health
  • Horse tack and equipment
  • Biological systems of horses
  • Prepare horses for presentation
  • Equine feeding and nutrition
  • Horse behaviour and welfare

Entry Requirements

  • For those age 16+ with a keen equine interest
  • Applicants are required to complete a skills test to demonstrate they are working to the Level 2 Horse Care standard
  • For the riding option, applicants must be able to ride at walk, trot and canter competently, whilst maintaining a secure, balanced seat. Applicants must also be able to ride basic school movements (circles, transitions, changes of rein) and be able to jump a course of small fences (80cm).  Significant horse handling experience is required
  • A maximum weight limit of 13 stone for riders
  • GCSE at 4 or above in Maths and English or Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths and English
